On February 6, 2025, the President issued the attached Proclamation titled Eradicating Anti-Christian Bias. It prompted an immediate implementation by the VA and an immediate objection by the Wisconsin Council of Churches. Both documents are also attached.
Since this is a real life example of real life emotions, it will be easy to get pulled into the debate. Try not to. That isn't the point.
The point is that this Proclamation is clearly in violation of the First Amendments prohibition of any favoritism between religions. If that argument is not clear to you, then an alternate set of words the Supreme Court has been known to use is "excessive entanglement". What this means in laymans language is that the challenged words or actions cannot be implemented without the government getting all tied up in religious issues. Who is a Christian? How can you tell? Is the government going to try? And what is bias?
Since its issuance, the Proclamation has been removed from the website, and the VA reaction rescinded. I include it anyway, since in my mind it is indicative of what the administration would do if they could get away with it.
