In "Normal" times, the most head spinning fact in this whole case would have been Trump's audacity. But these are not normal times.
At the time of the 2020 election, the state of the law with regard to presidential immunity was that it covered Civil suits for money damages, and the immunity only held during time in office.
When he was indicted in August of 2023, that was still the law. In October of that year, he responded to that indictment with the attitude of a king. He ASSUMED he had a right to full and complete immunity against any claims, civil or criminal, and that immunity lasted for life. This is the attitude of our perpetrator.
The other side of immunity is that some individual citizen who has been harmed as a result, goes without justice. Under the previous law, that meant not getting a money settlement, but with the potential of getting it after the president left office. What Trump wanted to assume covered everything as high as murder. With no recourse ever.
Trump Claimed He had a Right to Immunity -
Not Just While in Office, but for Life!
Not Just for Civil Damages but for Criminal Actions
Trump has no concern for those hurt in his way
